The Boy and the Raven takes place in a far-away city where airplanes fly over, soldiers march between the buildings and a young boy lives all by himself. Missing his lost parents, the boy spends his time wandering around the city and trying to stay away from danger until one day, a raven falls down from the sky. The boy takes the raven home and looks after the injured bird. Little by little, friendship and trust develop between the two of them, even without a common language.
This wordless performance addresses the themes of friendship, war and survival from a child's perspective. The Boy puppet, made by Hannu Räisä, is carved using a rare Bunraku technique. The original story and script is written by Antti Kemppainen and music is composed by Antti Polameri.
The performance is almost wordless and composed throughout.

The Boy and the Raven has been performed at international puppet theatre festivals in Nairobi and Nanyuki in Kenya 2018 and Delhi and Chandigarn in India 2020.
Kuninkaallinen Nukketeatteri (Royal Puppet Theatre) is a professional theatre from Finland run by puppet master Hannu Räisä. Founded in 2009, the theatre produces plays for children and adults. The Boy and the raven is available by request all around Finland as well as abroad.
